I really enjoyed my first Emily Houghton book。 A story of tragedy, friendship and love, told through a dual Point of View, which I found ensured the novel was character driven。I found it to be an emotional read, and couldn't stop that prickly eye feeling that you get when a book hits you。 I wanted to shake the characters at times, and felt frustrated with them, as I would a friend in real life。 Houghton brought the characters to life so well that I truly did feel like I was hearing the story of I really enjoyed my first Emily Houghton book。 A story of tragedy, friendship and love, told through a dual Point of View, which I found ensured the novel was character driven。I found it to be an emotional read, and couldn't stop that prickly eye feeling that you get when a book hits you。 I wanted to shake the characters at times, and felt frustrated with them, as I would a friend in real life。 Houghton brought the characters to life so well that I truly did feel like I was hearing the story of a friend。Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

You meet up with Fin and Eleanor at different points of their lives, spanning from their childhood when they were inseparable, to the present day, when they have lost touch。 Told from both Fin and Eleanos' perspectives, you feel as though you are seeing both sides of their story。 Fin was important to all of Eleanor's family and seemed like a brother and honorary son to them。 The reason for Fin's return to the UK adds a poignancy to the story and you glimpse the lives of several of the residents You meet up with Fin and Eleanor at different points of their lives, spanning from their childhood when they were inseparable, to the present day, when they have lost touch。 Told from both Fin and Eleanos' perspectives, you feel as though you are seeing both sides of their story。 Fin was important to all of Eleanor's family and seemed like a brother and honorary son to them。 The reason for Fin's return to the UK adds a poignancy to the story and you glimpse the lives of several of the residents in his mother's care home。 Grief and loss are set against the warmth and compassion which you see there and you can't help but feel for Fin as he comes to terms with his mother's illnesses。 There is also a certain sadness attached to the fact that former best friends have lost touch and can't seem to communicate as they used to。 You are willing Fin and Eleanor to talk more but as you come to realise, the dynamic between them is complicated and there are some serious issues at the root of their relationship。 Eleanor's new best friend, Sal adds some humour to the story and I enjoyed Eleanor's relationship with her sister and mother。 This is a story which carries you along and by the end, you do care about how it will end up。 In short: Friends to lovers Thanks to the publisher for a copy of the book 。。。more

I fell in love with this story pretty quickly。This is a friends to lovers sort of romance that manages to be both funny and heart-warming all at the same time。Eleanor and Fin were best friends for such a long time and they had a simple plan。 If they were both single at the grand old age of 35 then they would get married to each other。 But best laid plans and all that。 Life happened and this once close pair unfortunately lost touch。 Each of them having their reasons as to why this occurred。 But f I fell in love with this story pretty quickly。This is a friends to lovers sort of romance that manages to be both funny and heart-warming all at the same time。Eleanor and Fin were best friends for such a long time and they had a simple plan。 If they were both single at the grand old age of 35 then they would get married to each other。 But best laid plans and all that。 Life happened and this once close pair unfortunately lost touch。 Each of them having their reasons as to why this occurred。 But fate still had plans for this unsuspecting duo。Fast forward twenty years, when Fin comes back from America to spend time with his mum (who is sadly dying) he has the chance to reconnect with his former best friend。 Could this be Eleanor and Fin's moment to finally be together?Just like Before I Saw You, I felt a real connection with both of our main protagonists。A second chance at love, who could possibly pass up on that。Surely it must be inevitable, that the two former best friends end up meeting, and just so happen to clumbsily work their way through their simultaneous tragedies and come face to face with what in their hearts they've known all along 。 。 。That they belong together。Be still my beating heart。Honest and heart felt。 It just seems to be Emily's style and it gets my every time。Whilst fairly predictable, I really like this in a book sometimes。 I live for the happily ever afters, with an rollercoaster of emotions thrown in for good measure。 With some more serious subject matter mixed in with the storyline, this is a story that came across as highly believable。Also a big shout out to some lovely secondary characters。Last Time We Met is just as good as Houghton's first novel and comes highly recommended from me。 A sweet romance that will warm up your summer。 。。。more

The sub-characters were also very likeable; Eileen, Sal, Freya, Ben, Reggie and even the overpowering Angela at times, Sunday lunch at her house sounds like a blast! I loved Before I Saw You by this author and was excited to read Last Time We Met, I'm a sucker for a happy ending and was hoping to get one here, but that's as much as I will say on that subject, you'll just have to read it for yourself。 I'd like to thank Transworld Publishers and Netgalley for inviting me to read this beautiful book, I will post my review on Goodreads now and Amazon on publication day。 。。。more

Talk about friends to lovers。 This book was so incredibly bittersweet, touching on grief, first love, friendship and the hardships that come when you grow apart from your childhood best friend。 I loved the flashbacks, that followed Eleanor and Fin throughout their childhood, and into adulthood。I haven't previously read any books by this author, but I will definitely be ensuring I look out for any more books, as I really enjoyed the writing style。 Talk about friends to lovers。 This book was so incredibly bittersweet, touching on grief, first love, friendship and the hardships that come when you grow apart from your childhood best friend。 I loved the flashbacks, that followed Eleanor and Fin throughout their childhood, and into adulthood。I haven't previously read any books by this author, but I will definitely be ensuring I look out for any more books, as I really enjoyed the writing style。 。。。more

Thank you to Random House UK & Netgalley for the opportunity to review this ARC。I was expecting a fun little rom-com, instead I get all the feels! Although some topics featured are a little tough, everything has been handled with thought & compassion。 This book has a good pacing, fantastically written plot & most importantly great characters that you really root for! Usually childhood friends-to-lovers isn’t my favourite trope, but this book may have converted me…

Well written, but what a pretty sad story。 It’s marketed as romance but there is very little romantic activity happening。 A lot of childhood trauma and grief being dealt with。 It does have a HEA but it’s not really what I would call a happy romance。 Enjoyable read but don’t go in expecting a rom-com。
